Humans don't necessarily need a religion, they need to find out why almost every endeavor is a competition. In brief, imo, whatever Spiritual teaching one follows is exactly right for this time. Each one's life is their spiritual journey, and of course, this includes a basic premise: We seek happiness, and that requires a lot of time, and moreover, sincere alignment with one's desires. Intention is the animator of lives. The defect of monotheism is that it requires that if one group is right, the rest must be wrong. Then wars and clashes go on for millennia to today. And that competitive spirit can push one continue, even as we look at a time on this planet, where things seem to be deteriorating. When we live from a place of self - inquiry and respect for life - life is better, and we affect the world and the people we contact. Each one is responsible for their actions (and to improve them). The best "religion" is direct inspiration from a higher source. One is drawn to follow a teaching at this time and place. It is what you have chosen. Part of the greatness of Buddhism is that it promotes direct inquiry.
